The CDS is a entry for the officer rank in all the three wings of the defense and every body who will get selected through the CDS exam will only get a officer rank.
You need to understand the basic fact about the CDS,that is it is a entry for the graduates only,one need to be graduate in order to apply for the CDSE exam and graduation is enough to get a good post in any sector,a graduation is always enough,all the entries that will have through the CDSE will be of the officer entry where your salary would begin with minimum of 20000 plus all types of allowances making it 50k+ every month.

CDSE exam is a entrance exam through which candidates after graduation can enter in to the IMA,OTA,NA,AFA the academy from where you will head to the respective wings of the defense.Then after clearing CDSE,you will have to for the SSB interview then the medical and physical fitness,then you get selected.The CDSE is a entry for the graduates,while UES is a entry only specifically for the engineers,yes the engineers can apply for the defense wings in the pre final year only,and they will not have to give any entrance for that,it is just the SSB and the fitness test for them.
