    hi friend,

You are not allowed to shift your service preference from ias to irs after clearing interview.

after the prelims result is announce you will be asked to fill the daf form in which you have to give the service preference and whatever preference you have given the same will be allotted to you after clearing the examination depending upon the rank you score.

In your case you cannot change as you have specified ias in the mains form.but there is a possibility that if you get some low ranks then you may not get in to ias and if there is a vacancy in irs and you have mentioned it to be a second choice then you may get it.so in this case pray for some low rank.

    all the best

    hi
yes my dear friend the choices or the preference that you need to chose in the upsc IAS exam Is completely dependant on you only. But the choices in only given to the students who scores the best in the mains exams. If you have a good score in the mains exams, you will be asked the question that in case you get selected, then what would be your preference for joining the upsc officer.
at that time you can say that you want to join the IRS
