It is strange that as a mechanical engineer you want to take Mechanical subject as your one of the optional subject .

I don't know why but it is not good for you because as you are a mechanical engineer so that you have enough knowledge of mechanical engineering .

It is easy for you to prepare the subject because most of the subjects related to mechanical you already knew so your time is not wasted .

But as you don't want to Mechanical and Maths as your optional subject then you will select the subjects based on your interest .

You can select any two subject from the below list .
    Agriculture
    Management
    Animal Husbandry & Vetinary Science
    Anthropology
    Botany
    Medical Science
    Chemistry
    Philosophy
    Civil Engineering
    Physics
    Commerce & Accountancy
    Political Science & International Relations
    Economics
    Psychology
    Electrical Engineering
    Public Administration
    Geography
    Sociology
    Geology
    Statistics
    Indian History
    Law
    Zoology

So based on your interest select any two from the above list .

But once again i suggest you to take mechanical as one of your optional subject .

Because as you currently working as a employee so i think you have no time for the preparation so that you should select those subjects in which you take minimum time .

Be careful while choosing the subjects .

    best of luck

    Hi Aspirant,

Friend you should choose the subject of your desire in which you are keen interested to study.

I dont know why you dont want to choose the subject related to engineering.

You completed engineering from mechanical and UPSC include the mechanical subject in the list of optional subjects for mains exam.

Here I write the list of optional subject which you can choose

    Agriculture
    Animal husbandry & vetinary science
    Anthropology
    Botany
    Chemistry
    Civil engineering
    Commerce and accountancy
    Economics
    Geography
    Indian History
    Law
    Management
    Mathematics
    Mechanical engineering
    Medical science
    Philosophy
    Physics
    Political science & international relations
    Psychology
    Sociology
    Statistics
    Zoology

You can choose any subject of desire.

If you want to choose non engineering subject then you can choose the history and psychology subjects.

These are good subject for the preparation of civil exam.

You can also choose the subject of geography and public administration.

But final decision should be your own.

So be careful in the selection of optional subject.

It will impact your overall performance.

    Best of Luck

    dear friend,

as you said you are from Mechanical Engineering so i would advice you to select your core subjects like Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering. Because you must have knowledge of these subjects which will be helpful for you to crack the exam.

but if you really want that you can't go with your core subjects then i will advice you to select History and Geography as your optional subjects.
because these subjects are easy to learn and easy to crack. Most of the participants choose these subjects as optional subjects.

    Good Luck.......

    hi

If you do not want to choose the mechanical subjects, then i want to tell you that you are doing a big mistake.

You have done your graduation from the mechanical engineering stream which is one of the best engineering stream in the engineering.

If you choose machanical engineering for the UPSC exam then you can give the IES (Indian Engineering Service).

Which is only for the candidates who are from engineering.

    If you do not want to go with mechanical engineering then i would like to tell you that you can choose any of the subjects given below;

    *Geography

    **History

    ***Physics

    ***Chemistry

    ****Management

    *****Agriculture

    ******Economics

    *******Philosophy

    *********Law

    Thank you........

it is nice that you are mechanical engineer.
    according to my view,
you have to select math and subject related to mechanical engineering so that you can easily crack exam.
or choose easy optional subject such as history, geography etc.

    good luck...................
