    Hi friend,

Hope that you are in good health and good state of mind.

Yes my friend, you are certainly eligible for the exam.
It hardly affects that you have done your Engineering from CSE.

See,the according to the eligibility criteria, the candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

So if the university from where you did engineering is approved by UGC,the you can surely sit in the exam.

But make sure that you also fulfill the age criteria.

-->A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st
August, in the year of examination.

-->The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable in the following cases:

->Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe: upto a maximum of five years.
->Other Backward Classes: upto a maximum of three years.
->State of Jammu & Kashmir (Domiciled during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to 31st December,
1989): upto a maximum of five years.
->Defence Services personnel : upto a maximum of five years.

If you satisfy the above criteria, than you'll can sit for the exam!

Best of Luck for the exam!

Re: Are computer science graduates eligible for UPSC exams or not?

    Dear friend,

    Yes of course why not.

You are 100% eligible for the exam.

UPSC has nothing to do with a particular stream candidates. It just need passed graduates to sit for the exam, It does not demand any particular stream gradutes.

So it does not matter whether you are a computer science graduate or any other It just matters that you have completed your graduation and so you are eligible to apply for the exam.

UPSC conducts Civil services exam to tests students or professionals in their aptitude, their knowledge about current affairs and their country and world.

So all stream students are eligible for the exam.

    Pattern of civil services exam:-

    1
    . Prelims ( CSAT)
    Its an objective exam.

    2 papers:

** General Aptitude covering sections like:

    • Logical reasoning
    • Maths
    • English
** General studies includes general knowledge and awareness.

    2. Mains

    3. Interview

    hi
you are eligible for the IAS examination but I am sorry to say that you are not eligible for giving the IES exam.
Because for the IAS exam you need to be a graduate only in the following streams of engineering
    1. Mechanical engineering
    2. Electrical engineering
    3. Civil engineering
    4. ECE
The age for giving these exams is 21-30 years for the general category students.
And a relaxation of 3 and 5 years is given to the obc and the sc/st category respectively.

Re: Are computer science graduates eligible for UPSC exams or not?

    Dear Aspirant

You need not to worry as UPSC encouraged students from any background to apply for theexamination if they want to serve the country. But the educational qualification fixed by the commission is you need to begraduate from a recognised university in any stream of education.so being a graduate in computer science you are eligible for the examination. But there other criteria that you have to keep in mind like age limits and number of attempts you have allowed to appear in the exam

The minimum age limit fixed by the commission is 21 years and upper age limit should not exceeds 30 years for General Category candidateswhere as it has been relaxed by 3 years for OBCs and 5 years for SC/ST.Besides this you are given four attempts if you belong to General category within the specified age limits and 7 attempts for OBCs and no limit for SC/ST

But you might knowing very well that UPSC doesn't provide any optional paper for Computer Science There is no separate paper included in UPSC syllabus. So you need to appear for different papers among the list of optional paper. You may select either arts paper like history ,geography, economics,or science subjects like mathematics, physics ,chemistry or any other paper like Public Administration.See selection of optional is very crucial though its weightage has been reduced but you need to be vary cautious while selecting optional.Infact in my advice your interest in particular subjetc should be your optional paper You may now start your preparation as soon as possible.Specially if your planning to appear for the examination next years.
