the prelims requires immense training , knowledge , current events and also preparation .
1.keep yourself updated by reading books of constitution of india , political sciences , law and various other books for reference .
2.for GK and APTITUDE please use RD sharma , RS agarwal , currents events , and of course by reading news papers daily.
3. please be sure with your science subjects and indian sciences as most expected questions will be covering these chapters.
4.Logical reasoning and grammatical books will be of great use .
5.geology , constitution , topography , human resource , physiology , public sectors , etc are some other fields of interest.
cracking the exams is secondary , whereas preparation for the exams depends the most as the outcome will be your effort .
the prelims will be followed by the interview which will be more general and will be related to yourself .

For the post of IAS you have to apply for Civil Services Exam that is conducted by UPSC every year. UPSC conduct Civil Services Exam every year.
As you said you are now in First year of B.Sc so you have two years for preparation. It will really going to helpful for you.
Tips For Preparation:
- first and most important Manage your Time table and maintain your self calm and Cool.
- go ahead according to UPSC Syllabus.
- you can start for UPSC by study 6th to 12th NCERT books and collect best study material related to syllabus.
- increase your general knowledge, continuous reading news papers and magazines, concentrate on English.
- solving Previous year question papers is most requisite part of preparation.

Eligibility Criteria For Civil Services:
>>you must have completed or appearing in final year of graduation.
>>your age must be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 August of the year of exam. there is relaxation in upper age limit up to 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
Limit Number Of Attempts:
>>General category: 4 attempts
>>OBC category: 7 attempts
>>SC/ST category: No Limit
