Friend it is dome difficult to clear Civil pre exam in fist attempt without the help of coaching but not impossible.
You can clear the pre exam by your hard work and study planning in right direction.
You should have cleared all concepts.
You should make a proper time table for the study and strictly follow this time table.
Pre exam consists of general studies and English paper.
So you should concentrate only these two subject.
Use reference books for wide study.
NCERT books provide good study material for the preparation of UPSC exam.
