No, its not necessary to quit your job... it is very much possible to crack IAS exam at the same time doing job.. many aspirants clear CSE simultaneously with doing their respective jobs�all you have to do is to put more effort. Don�t quit your job.
If you want to prepare for IAS while in the job. I know it is very difficult. But I think sustained effort (as far as time devoted per day is concerned) over a longer period of time can possibly be a way for IAS preparation.
Some people cannot quit their job for monetary reasons yet they clear CSE Examination and that persons will be inspirational to you specially.
Civil services are one of the toughest competitive examinations when compared to all other competitive examinations which re available.. and you have a job in your hand .. you have to make more and more effort as compared to other aspirants as you will left with little time and will get tired by your whole day work .
You have to manage your time accordingly and have believe in yourselve .. never let your hope to die.

Due to which the competition is very tough.From almost five to six lacs candidates every year only 600-700 are selected.
