    Dear Aspirant

You have asked so many questions even I get confused from where should I start some are linked but some are not important at this stage because first you have to clear some of the stages of examination and then those questions like physical fitness are of worth importance. Before I tell you more I would like to tell the pattern of examination.

See the new pattern proposed by commission has reduced the weightage of optional paper and has given more importance to general studies.Four new paper categorized broadly into General Studies I,II,III,and IV has been proposed.Only one optional paper has been introduced in the main exams. The actual pattern of examination is categorized into Preliminary examinatiom and Main Examination. That you know but the main examination consists of two phases Written Examination and Interview Test.

The preliminary examination has two compulsory paper. They are mentioned below
Paper 1 200 marks Duration 2hrs of MCQ types questions
Paper 2 200 marks Duration 2hrs of MCQ types questions

The main examination has two optional paper among twenty five optionals provided and five compulsory paper. They are mentioned below with their name
    Paper 1:Section 1 Essay 200 Marks
Section 2 English Comprehension & English Prcise 100 Marks (Of Matriculation/ Xth standard level)
Paper 2:General StudiesI Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society 250 marks
Paper 3:General Studies II Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations 250marks
Paper 4:General Studies III Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management 250marks
Paper 5:General Studies IV Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude 250 marks
    Paper 6:Optional Subject Paper 1 250 Marks
    Paper 7:Optional Subject Paper 2 250 Marks

Now see the preparation strategy depends upon you.Ideally 6-8 hours of study with regular study for one year is required. But since you are in 5th semester of your course so it will be little tough. So you better start your preparation making strategies. You should take step by step approach. You cannot complete it within a year as you have to study and perform good in course also. You have to really perform better in your present course because your current performance will motivate you to perform better in future.

Go download the syllabus from UPSC official websites (www.upsc.gov.in) and you may take civil as one of your optional as it is given as one of the choice. But you have to really work hard and make your concepts very clear in your subjects.Go on completing the syllabus as per the syllabus of your semester and besides previous year question paper of civil solve also model question paper.

In this way you can complete your optional paper as you complete your engineering.Besides this develop a habit of reading newspaper. It will keep you updated about current affairs and help you to improve your English. It will also increase your vocabulary. When completes these things. Then you should start preparing for prelims examination.Approx 3-4 months of preparation is going to be sufficient to make it.

See coaching are only required when your conceptual not ccleared in your basics or optional paper. If there is noone to guide and most important thing you want to make it but you have no motivation for it.Means you lose it as the syllabus is vast and infact examination takes more than a year.So for my view doing coaching from will be very hectic and you couldn't prepare well.If you could manage time then its fine.Managing time doesn't mean going there but also study things taught.Generally Delhi is considereed as the best coaching centre and now things have chnage a lot and you may get preparatory guidelines onlines like UPSC Disscussions sites and in your locality also. But choose the best coaching institutes.
