1.read news paper daily especially the hindu and times of india.
2.read magazines like chronicle.
3.remain updated with general knowledge.
4.choose subjects as per your knowledge.
5.make your concepts clear before writing exam.
6.study well and work hard.

As you are in 12th i will suggest you to keep focus on your study and get admission for interested graduation course. meanwhile you can keep focus on news channel and news papers as well. once you get admission in graduation then you can kick start your study with History, geography. Polity, mathematics, geology, sociology, economics etc.
