NO doubt Mathematics is very scoring subject if you have prepared yourself better for it.
You need to do lot of practice to score very good marks in the Mathematics.
But first you should ask yourself whether you are good in maths or not?

Whether you can do fast calculation without calculator?
You can refer to various books to prepare for Mathematics Subjects like :

so you should check that out too.

Yes , Maths is a very good optional subject for UPSC Exams .
If you are good in maths , then you must have maths as one of your subjects to get more more as it requires only correct calculation and if you are good in maths , then you can score farbetter rather than other subjects.
But at the same time , it totally depends on you that whether you are good in maths and do you have such an interest in maths that you can score well or not.
This is because if you are not well in maths , then this subject will prove as a curse for you in the examinations. So , I Advise you to be selective at the time of choosing the subjects as UPSC Exams are the toughest exams which are conducted in our nation.
