yes it is compulsory to study history as its part of General studies for prelims exam as UPSC reforms their pattern of exam in this year. so now you dont have chance to select optional subjects for prelims exam. The ground rule is without knowing history you can not make future of India even after becoming IAS officer.
So History is must for IAS.

See history is not so tough only thing you need that you need to keep revising and if you study with interets it will be of great help.Say I am telling that suppose you have studied about ant temple arhitecture design, when was it built, who built and why was it built and you get an opportunity to visit that place then if you remember the historical significance of that place how much interesting. And you don't need to remember complex formula for it.Only thing which require is timely revision of studied topics
hi aspirant
No...it is not necessary.....you can choose subject of your own choice but in a combination permitted by UPSC.
