it is good combination for the civil service exam. but condition is that if you already read this subject in the graduation, then you easily preparation for this exam.
other wise the best combination and more popular subject for the civil service exam is that:-
public administration
indian history
geography
political science
other wise management subject is good for you.
best of luck for the future
Dear,
The optional subjects are required at the time of Main examination of CSAT of UPSC. The optional subject as Zoology and Botany will be the good subjects, if you are a Science students. So if you are convenient to these two subjects, then you can surely opt these above two subjects as your optional paper for the UPSC Main examination. Thanks..

Hi Aspirant
Yes no doubt both of these subjects are good
But it depends on you that you likes both subjects or not
Means you have interest in the both subjects or not
And if you have interest in the subjects then no doubt go for both these subjects
Their is criteria for the exam
And here is the details of the criteria :

# The candidate of the final year are also eligible for the exam
# The candidate just pass in the graduation with pass marks
# The age of the aspirant must be between 21-30
Age Relaxation :
Their is also age relaxation given
To the different categories as per the government rules
Their is 3 years relaxation given to obc category
And for the sc,st their relaxation given of 5 years
Also for the ph candidates relaxation given of 10 years
Best of luck
If you did graduation in one of those subjects, then u can choose. Because, the syllabus is very vast. If you are interested in those subjects, kindly have a look at the syllabus and then decide. Its only your interest, that will motivate you to study and write well.
But there are certain difficulties like lack of expert guidance in these optionals, self preparation only and very few candidates attempt, so the ratio of getting selected is small, hence you have to be at the top 20 to get selected.
Don't think i am discouraging you. these are the things which i wanted to share. Its your decision and remember that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going
yes for sure dear
if you are comfortable with these subjects then they are good for your mains examination.
but the exam is going to very tough.so your selection must be such that you don't suffer in the exam.
you should fully confident about your selection and the preparation must be good enough to clear the exam
otherwise the most popular subjects of upsc civil services mains examination are
public administration
Indian history
geography
political science
these subject are very scoring in the examination point of view.
I completed my graduation in botany so I am also deciding to take up botany as an optional in upsc so can anyone here please guide me as of which books to refer to for the mains?
As botany is not really a conventional optional I'm not really getting much help related to which books to refer to and which study material to read.
I am in desperate need of some guidance.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
An IAS aspirant.
