My Dear Aspirant
Yes statics is no doubt a good subject to choose as an
Optional subject but it will depend on you and your interest
If you like statics subject and you are strong in the subject
Then no doubt go for it as it is a nice subject
And remember one thing that you can choose both subjects
Together maths and statics
And as far from the % required for the upsc exam
The answer is no specific % required
Just need to be pass in graduation from a recognized indian university
And age should be between 21-30
Best of luck
according to 61st annual report of UPSC, out of the total 13,000 candidates who appeared for mains in the year 2010, 18 students have chosen statistics as an optional(13 of them wrote in ENglish). If you have prior expertise on the subject, you can very well choose, this subject will help you i other exams also such as Indian Engineering service exam, combined higher secondary level exam by SSC etc
