As there are different subjects for different exams.
Dear student,
Mostly for all the exams conducted by the UPSC,its the GENERAL STUDIES,ENGLISH and the NUMERICAL ABILITY that count for the most.
Practice keeping your pace with the CURRENT AFFAIRS and the basic SOCIAL subjects u have been learning since your school days. Also try solving reasoning and aptitude questions. These sections are very scoring and contain a good no. Of marks.
If you were talking about the MAINS exams under the CIVIL SERVICE by UPSC,then the two optional subjects u choose there have equal weightage of marks.
Good luck.
Basically all the sections have equal weightage, you got qualify in all.But still to name the specific, the numerical ability, general knowledge, social sciences subjects, english count a lot which you see almost covers all the subjects.

Dear Guest,
* In UPSC exams there are two steps - pre and mains.
* In PRE now all the syllabus and pattern are same for all candidates i.e. CSAT. So there is no such weightage and all are equally divided.
* In MAINS there are various subjects and you have to choose among them. All subjects are equally asked and checked and there is no such thing that particular subject will give you more marks.
* Weightage of marks depends on your preparation and not on subject.
* You can choose any subject which you like and study it with hard work and great passion, you will score good marks.
dear not in upsc exams but in other exams as well the subjects that gets more weightage are general knowledge , mathematics and reasoning etc.
