For preliminary exam of CS i.e. CSAT, all the main subjects you have studied till 10th are important and necessary. The main among them which have more questions relative to others are Geography,History,Civics,Biology,Physics,Economics and above all Current affairs. You will have test of English and aptitude in CSAT II which will test your English and Mathematics.

Dear if you are preparing for UPSC civil service examination then you should focus on following topics for preliminary examination and if you complete these topics and get good proficiency then you may easily score good marks in prelims and get qualified for mains examination

There will be two papers in the prelims exam as - General Studies and CSAT and each paper has different syllabus and each paper will be conducted in objective type pattern for 200 marks. Qualifying in prelims is compulsory

    Paper I - General Studies : 200 marks - duration 2 hours

    >> Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policies, Rights Issues
    >> Economic and Social Development, Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives etc.
    >> General Issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization
