hi siddharth,
i think you are not aware of the change in the syllabus for the preliminary examination.the pattern changed in the year 2011 itself. Now there is no optional papers in the preliminary level but you have to one optional for the mains level.
for prelims:
you have to appear in two papers on the same day.
question paper is of objective type
paper1 is general studies paper.for general studies you have to prepare the subjects like polity, indian constitution, geography, history, general science, governance issue, current affairs etc..
paper 2 is aptitude paper. here you have to prepare aptitude, reasoning, data interpretation, decision making, english comprehension,etc..
paper 1 will have 100 questions and paper 2 will have 80 questions
the preliminary exam is of qualifying nature.if you qualify you can write mains exam.for this year exam is over so prepare to appear for next year.
all the best
It depends on which subject you're strong and which subject you feel very light to prepare...
If you're good at history then take history as optional subject in mains....
