there is negative marking in civil services exam in both the papers. This procedure is being followed till 2012 exam. It will most probably be followed in 2013 exam also. Because without this kind of negative marking there is a possibility of candidates who attempt the questions without knowing properly and by fluke they can clear. To prevent such ill-prepared candidates this system is followed . UPSC wants candidates who are well prepared and can attend the exam confidently .The details will be issued in the notification form.
Scheme of marking:
Paper 1:
General studies
For every correct answer, 2 marks awarded.
For every wrong answer, 2/3 marks will be deducted. THat is one third of mark of a correct answer will be deducted.
simply, for every 3 wrong answers, 2 marks will be deducted.
Paper 2:
CSAT
for every correct answer 2.5 marks awarded
For every wrong answer,2.5/3 marks will be deducted.
Simply, for every 3 wrong answers, 2.5 marks will be deucted

Two paper held in the preliminary exam,both of them are the general study exam.

all exam has negative marking which is taken by the upsc.

Yes my dear friend, in the civil services aptitude test, there is negative marking awarded.
There are two papers in the CSAT exam which is also known as the civil services prelims examination. Both the papers are of 200 marks each.
In first paper, there are 100 questions, 2 marks each whereas in the second paper which is of aptitude. In the second paper, there are 80 questions of 2.5 marks each.
In first paper, for every wrong answer 2/3 marks are deducted and in the second paper, for every wrong attempt, 2.5/3 marks are deducted.

yes, There will be negative marking in CSAT exam . Two papers are held in perliminary exam, both have different criteria to deduct the marks in every wrong answer.

PAPER 1 (General studies):
