Hi
you did not mention your interest or qualification.
But i want to tell you tat you will have to choose that combination of the exam which is of your stream.
foe example if you are a civil engineering student then you should choose the mathematics as optional subjects because both are related to your stream.
so you can choose any of the optional subject which are related to your stream.

Well mine friend, by UPSC mains examination you means Civil services examination??
Well i hope it's for yes....
So, Best Subject combination depends on what kind of person you are...
I mean that it highly depends on how see things and what's your favourite subjects,,etc
Lemme mention all the factors which may help you choose your mains exam subjects :
>> First of all,, it depends on which Subject is your favourite one,, always go for it in first
>> Second,, what kind of guy you are,, i mean you like remembering things or Understanding them??
>> Your dedication.. the subject your are dedicated to
Well, basically best combination revolves around those 3 factors.
So, in mine opinion choose one subject out of those which are going to help you in CSAT like Geography or History or Environmental sciences.
So, rest of two subjects be chosen by you according to your interest.
Here's list of subjects for you :
Best of Luck!!
Hope it helps!!

Dear Friend,
combination of optional subject is of highly personal opinion.
You need to decide by yourself as to which subject will likely be more convenient for you to prepare.
You can choose the subject according to your education qualification.
Like suppose if you are Graduate in Commerce than you can opt for subject of Commerce and Accountancy as one of your optional subject.
The most preferred optional subject for IAS aspirant is the Public Administration.
it is a very good scoring subject which has small syllabus as compared to other syllabus.
It also includes study of General Studies which can also be beneficial in preparation for CSAT Prelims simultaneously.
Popular Combinations are Public Ad. and History,
History and Political Science,
Public Administration and Sociology,
History and Philosophy.
There are certain subject combinations which are not allowed by UPSC:
>Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration
>Commerce & Accountancy and Management
>Anthropology and Sociology
>Mathematics and Statistics
>Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
>Management and Public Administration Of the Engineering subjects, viz., Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineeringnot more than one subject
>Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science
So now choose the subjects according to your preference.
Choose it wisely as it will depend on your performance in the examination.
All the best.
