Dear Aspirant
If you are good in E&TC papers of engineering you have studied well through with concepts and you score good then you can do very well in IES examination. If not then for IAS you have to select different papers as optional as many papers of E&TC are not present in Electrical engineering papers(only optional provided by UPSC).So in that case after completing graduate you select which subject you should take as optional among 25 optional given by UPSC.For time being you develop a habit of reading newspapers, and practice aptitude and reasonnig. It will help you in your placements also.Visit UPSC websites to asses examination pattern, duration of examination
