Hello,
IFS stands for Indian Foreign Services. The officers work abroad in different Indian consulates and embassies in different countries. They act as a channel between India and different other countries. They are also responsible to look into the issues of Indian diaspora living abroad.
Whereas Indian Forest Services (IFoS) officers work while remaining in the country.
IFS exam is conducted as civil services. The exam is meant to recruit for 24 different services and IFS is one of them.
For IFoS, UPSC conducts an exclusive exam meant for that purpose.
IFoS exam asks for candidates only from certain graduation background but for IFS exam, there is no restriction based on graduation stream.
IFS is considered as Central services while IFoS as All India Services.
Only grads from following stream can appear for IFoS exam:
The candidate must hold a Bachelors degree with at least one of the subjects namely
Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science,
Botany,
Chemistry,
Geology,
Mathematics,
Physics,
Statistics and
Zoology
OR a Bachelors degree in
Agriculture,
Forestry or
Engineering
The other eligibilty criteria are same for both IFS and IFoS exam.
Do revert back if you have any further doubts.
