An IRS officer is responsible for performing various duties like:
1- Official work.
2- Field work which include raids, various checkings etc.

IRS officer finds place in custom deptt. or in income tax deptt. Their main responsibility is to oversee tax collection process. And, at the top of hierarchy of officers, they are also included in policy framing teams.
