The word stringent means strict. Thus, stringent laws means strict laws.
For example, Mamta Banerjee wishes the amendments of criminal law to stringent(strict) punishment for women safety.
These laws can be made by the Legislature. Legislature is a body which has the power to create, amend, pass and repeal laws. Both Union and state legislature can make laws; but, stringent laws can be passed only by the Union.
