First of all I would like to tell you one thing that there is no IPS examinations.IPS stands for Indian police Services and is just a post .

THE examination for IAS post is conducted by UPSC every year and comes under the category of civil services examinations.

The are three stages of civil services examination:

>>Preliminary

-->It is generally held in the month of May every year.

>>Main examination

--->It is held in the october of every year.


Finally the personal interview is organised if you clear both the above examinations.

the notification of the published or released in the month of the December or January.
the preliminary exam is held in the month of the May.
the mains exam is held in the month of the October or September.
after that the interview taken by the upsc department.

The age limit for the exam
The age limit is for general category is 21 to 30 years. And attempt the exam 4 times.
The age limit is for obc category is 21 to 33 years (3 years relaxation). Attempt the exam 7 times.
Age limit for SC/ST category is 21 to 35 years and attempt chance till overage. Means no limit

Age relaxation to Physically Handicapped (PH) persons:

Age relaxation of 5 years is allowed (total 10 years for SCs/STs and 8 years for OBCs in respect of the
posts reserved for them)

Age relaxation for Meritorious Sports persons

The relaxation in upper age limit upto a maximum of 5 years (10 years for personsbelonging to SC/ST
Communities and 8 years for persons belonging to OtherBackward Classes in respect of posts reserved for them)

Qualification requirement:-

upsc demand only the graduation in any stream from the recognized university which is approved by the ugc/aicet. the percentage of the marks is no matter for the exam.

IF YOU WANT TO BECOME AN IPS OFFICER THAN YOU HAVE TO GIVE THE COMBINED EXAMINATION OF UPSC NAMED AS ' CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION'.

THIS EXAM IS CONDUCTED IN EVERY YEAR IN THE MONTH OF MAY/JUNE AND THE PRESCRIBED ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE SAME IS RELEASED IN THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY.


TO APPEAR IN THE EXAMINATION YOU MUST FULFILL THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND AGE CRITERIA
WHICH IS AS UNDER.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:-

1. CANDIDATE MUST BE THE CITIZEN OF INDIA.
2. CANDIDATE MUST BE A GRADUATE FROM A GOVT. RECOGNIZED UNIVERSITY.

AGE CRITERIA:-

FOR GENERAL:- 21-30 YEARS.

UPSC conducts the civil services exam every year to take candidates for various posts like the IAS, IPS, IFS etc...

The exam is conducted around May-June every year and the main exam is conducted after the prelims which is after Aug-sept, although these are tentative timings... The notification for the same appears in Feb every year.

All this will be updated in the official website of UPSC, which updates the notification and the online application forms. This site also has the UPSC calender which states every exam that is to be conducted by UPSC that year and the scheduled timings.
