you can apply for Civil Services Mains Exams only if you have cleared the UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam. if you have cleared the Prelims exam then you can give the Civil Services mains exam. and it is conducted on
"5-10-2012(Friday)".

only those candidates are eligible for civil services mains examination who have cleared the prelims examination which was held on 20 may 2012.and the prelims examination result is not released yet .so if you also give the prilims examination than wait for the result and if will clear than apply for mains unless apply for next year.

Yes you apply for this examination But it have many Exams and Different Different Eligibility Criteria's.
>>Civil Service Exam:-You can attend this exam you should be complete the bachelor degree in any discipline from recognized university and there is no minimum percentage of mark for this Examination and final year students also eligible for this examination And your age should between 21 to 30 years and You should be citizen of india.
In case your age is less than 20 Years Then you can attend this examinations.
>>Combined Defense Service Exam:-This Exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission and this examination is conducted by Twice per year(CDS-1 and CDS-II). If you interest to apply this examination You should be have this eligibility Criteria's.Your age limit not less than 19 years and you should be citizen of india and you complete the bachelor degree and there is no minimum percentage of mark for this examination.
>>National Defense Academy Exam:-If you interest to apply this examination You May have This eligibility's.Candidate should be citizen of india, The candidate age limits should between 16.5 to 19 years and there is no upper age limits and The candidate should be complete the 12th standard from recognized schools.
>>Special Class Railway Apprentices Exam:-This Exam is also conducted by Union public Service Commission and this examination is conducted by once per year.If Interest to apply this examination you should be have this eligibility Criteria's.The Applicant should be citizen of india,And the Applicant should be complete the 12th standard in any stream from recognized school and The Applicant age limit should between 17 to 21 years.

UPSC Main Exam will be in the month of October .
You are eligible for this exam only if you pass the preliminary exam otherwise you will not allow for the exam .
Even if you didn't give the preliminary exam also then you have to wait for the next exam because you can not directly entered into the main exam .
So if you passed the preliminary exam then start the preparation for the main exam and give it .
If you failed in preliminary exam then wait for the next exam till you prepare for that .
The structure of the main exam is below :

The first two papers are optional means its marks are not considered in final merit list but one have to get minimum require marks in these paper also .

The notification of the exam 2013 is released in the month of the December 2012 and the preliminary exam is held in the month of the may and the main exam held in the month of the September/October.so start your preparation for the exam.

according to the selection of the subjects by the applicants .
the notification for this exam was released on 4 feb 2012.
from 4 feb to 5 march 2012 the application forms were available in the head post offices and on the official site of upsc www.upsconline.nic.in.
this was the time when you can fill up the form for the upsc civil services examination.
the civil services exam is two stages .
