Union Public Service Commission will conduct an examination on 19th August 2012 for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA for the 130th Course, and for the 92nd Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from July, 2013. The candidates Joining Indian Naval Academy would undergo 4 years B.Tech Course and would be given an opportunity to join Executive and Technical Branches of the Navy Subject to availability of Vacancies.

CDS:-

The "Combined Defense Services" Examination or the CDS Exam is conducted twice a year by the UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy. The Notification for the examination is usually released in the months of October and June and the examination is conducted in February and September respectively. Only unmarried graduates are eligible to write the exam. Successful Candidates are admitted into the respective Academies after an interview conducted by SSB (service selection board).

Candidates successful in the written exam are then called for an interview by a service selection board which evaluates a candidate's suitability for a career in the Indian Armed Forces. The SSB interview lasts for approximately a week, during which a candidate undergoes various physical and psychological tests to ascertain whether or not he is officer material. Candidates cleared by the SSB are finally admitted into the above mentioned academies, and after successful completion of training, they are inducted into the armed forces.

Flying Branch:

(a). Age Limit: 19 to 23 years as on 01/07/2013 i.e. born between 02 July 1990 to 01 July 1994 (Both dates inclusive). Those candidates holding valid Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) will be relaxed in age upto 25 years i.e. born between 02 July 1988 to 01 July 1994 (Both dates inclusive).

(b). Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in any subject area with 60% Marks from a recognized University or Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Technology of 4 years with 60% Marks. Candidates must be passed 12th Examination with Maths and Physics.

(c). Physical Standards: Minimum height: 162.5 cms with correlated weight, Leg length: Min-99 cms. Max-120 cms. Thigh length: Max-64cms. Sitting height: Min-81.5 cms. Max-96 cms. Vision – 6/6 and 6/9

Technical Branch:

(a). Age Limit: 18 to 28 years as on 01/07/2013 i.e. born between 02 July 1985 to 01 July 1995 (Both dates inclusive).

(b). Educational Qualifications:

i. Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) AE (L): Candidates applying for AE(L) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognised university or cleared sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Instituion of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate Membership examination of the Institue of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies.

ii. AFCAT Selection Procedure:

Eligible candidates who apply with proper details will be called for AFCAT which will be conducted on 26/08/2012 (Sunday). Candidates who qualify in this test will be called for further test which will be done in three stages, Stage-I: Intelligence Test, Stage-II: Psychological Test, Group Test and Interview, Stage-III Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT).

Medical Examinations: If you are recommended by selection Board, you will be sent for the medical examination either at Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), New Delhi or Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bengaluru.

All India Merit List: An All India Merit List is compiled on the basis of your performance in the written test and AFSB interview and subject to being medically fit. Based on the vacancies available in various branches / sub branches, joining instructions are issued to join one of the Training establishments.

You can definitely join Defence Services through UPSC Exams.
Based on your academic qualification there are 2 possible Exams for you.

1.National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination (NDA)
2.Combined Defence Services Examination (CDS)

Both of these Exams are conducted twice each year.
As their eligibility criteria is different so is the exam pattern and job opportunities.

The eligibility criteria for both these Exam's is

1.Combined Defence Services Examination
#For IMA and OTA :- Degree of a recognised University or equivalent.
#For Naval Academy :- Degree in Engineering.
