    hi
I am sorry to say but you being from the petrochemical branch is not eligible for giving the IES examination, which is conducted by the upsc.
For giving the IES examination, you need to be a graduate in any of the following streams of engineering only.
    Mechanical engineering
    Civil engineering
    Electrical engineering
    ECE
Apart from thee 4 branches no other engineering branch is eligible for giving this exam

Re: Am I eligible for IES exam being a Petrochemical Engineering student?

    dear aspirant,

yes, sir you can apply for IES being a Engineering graduate in Petrochemical Engineering. because according to UPSC for IES you just have completed or appearing in final year of Engineering in any stream with any Percentage or CGPA.
but there is one big problem for you. that is you can only write IES exam by selecting any one from the following four branches. you cant able to give exam with your stream.
    1. Mechanical Engineering
    2. Electrical Engineering
    3. Civil Engineering
    4. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

for IES your age should be within 21 years to 30 years. There is also relaxation in upper age according to government norms vise 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

    Good Luck.....

Re: Am I eligible for IES exam being a Petrochemical Engineering student?

YES YOU ARE ELIGIBLE for IES exam.
The eligibility is that you need to be a graduate in engineering degree from ANY stream but from a recognised University and institution. You can apply being a B.E/B.Tech or equivalent in any stream be it Petrochemical engg or whichever stream.
BUT the major problem is that there are only 4 papers for which one can appear-
    Civil Engg
    Mechanical Engg
    Electrical Engg
    Electronics and telecommunication engg.
Whichever stream one is from, one has to give the exam in any one of the above papers only. So you can appear for IES but only if you can appear in any of these papers.
