The thing you need to Remember is " You must have a GRADUATION from a recognized university "
The Stream may be of any kind
You must not have any Backlogs .. And Study well

Yes why not it is a easy course in case of applications so that you can concentrate more of aptitude in which most of the people are filtered....
The only eligibility criteria for IAS is completion of degree from recognized university.
Weather u pursue BA or B.Sc or engineering it doesn't matters.
And while talking about benefits, yes of course its beneficial as humanitics subject such as history, political science are the part of civil service syllabus.
If you are studying then in your Degree it helps you.
