Dear Friend,
-The CIVIL SERVICES exams are conducted annualy by the UPSC in three phases,namely-
# PRELIMINARY EXAMS
# MAINS EXAMS
# INTERVIEWS
You will have to qualify the preceding exams to proceed to the next.
-The preliminary exams are usually conducted in MAY.
-According to the new pattern of PRELIMINARY EXAMS coming into place, you need not choose any optional subjects for the preliminary exams.
-These exams consist of two papers, which are supposed to be common to all the students.
-Now,you will have to choose TWO OPTIONAL PAPERS for the MAINS Exams. These exams are conducted in OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER.
-Personally,i would recommend you to opt for the ARTS SUBJECTS for the MAINS.
-The arts subjects include INDIAN HISTORY,PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION,GEOGRAPHY & POLITICAL SCIENCE.
-These subjects feature in the list of optional subjects allowed for mains exams.
-Also,the name of the subjects mentioned above are highly scoring and hence show a higher success rate in the past when compared to the other subjects.
-Further,it is these subjects which form the core of the PAPER-I of the Preliminary Exams.Hence, you will be able to prepare for both MAINS & PRELIMINARY simultaneously, thus saving a lot of time of yours.
-Improve your writing skills and get rid of the grammatical mistakes.
-If you maintain a positive attitude throughout, use your time well and work hard, you will definitely succeed.
