IAS that means Indian Administrative Service and AES that means Indian Engineering Services
Both are examination conducted by UPSC. IAS is a Civils service examination whereas IES is related to
Technical Field. IAS is for administrative civil service of the Government of India whereas IES is for
engineering services that meet the technical and managerial functions of the Government.

Both are very reputed but IAS is more high post with respect to AES. IAS cover three field in the
Administrative Service officers that is
1. Union Government
2. State governments
3. Public Sector Undertakings

Where as IES for engineering students in for sector of engineering that is
Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics and Communication
So if you are a engineer then you can go for both field. Otherwise for IAS only.

ias is job in the administration field and ies in technical (engineering ) field.

both of the exam is taken by the upsc and the exam pattern is same.

on the other hand IES: Stands for Indian Engineering Service

Well in true sense both are just superb posts

But as we all know Ias is highest post among all these

So IAS Officer have most power and most reputed

But it does not mean IES Have no power and status

The Ies post is also brilliant and have great power

But it will depend on you for which post

You want to go

Here is the criteria for the Exams :

-For the Ias post The candidate should be pass in Graduation from any stream

-For Ies post The candidate should be pass in b.tech degree

-The candidate age should be 21-30

-For sc.st relaxation of 5

-For the obc of 3 years

-For the ph category of 10 years

-The candidate should be a citizen of India

i think it's depands upon self because if you are engineer go with ies use your knowledge on your work & ias very much less chance for engineer they do work on your core field. that is meaning ias not able to ies i only say that use your 4th year knowledge on your core field.

Well dear i should tell you that you should not compare two things which are different.ias and ies both are high level post and both have same salary and same facility.ias is related to administrative field and ies is related to technical field both are for government sector service.so finally i will say that both are good.thank you

One cannot say which is best because both posts are prestigious posts in India.So you cannot compare as both are related to different departments.

For IAS the eligiblity criteria is:


* The candidate hold graduation degree in any stream from recognized university.

* The age limits are :

1.For general 21-30 yrs

2.For obc 21-33 yrs

3.For sc/st 21-35 yrs

And for IES the criteria is:

1.The candidate holds graduation degree in engineering from recognized university.

And age limits are same as mentioned above.
