As far as I am concerned Union Public service commission does not conduct any separate examinations for railway.However there are two examinations which can give you entry into the railways.
The description about them are as below:
1.Special class railway apprentice examinations:
The basic qualification required for this examination is 10+2 with physics ,chemistry and mathematics as compulsory subjects.
The age should be between 17-21 years.
2.The second examination is Indian engineering services.
I hope you are asking about this UPSC examination for the mechanical engineers.
Bachelor's degree in engineering/technology is the minimum requirement for this examination.
The age limit is between 21-30 years.Upper age limit relaxed for the reserved category.
The important dates are as below:
Date of notification:16/03/2013
Last date of receiving application:15/04/2013
Date of examinations:28/06/2013.
