as soon as the candidate clear the prelims the result notification is issued on the website of the upsc.
After clearing the prelims the candidate have to apply for the main and can choose two optional subject from the following list.

There are 9 papers in main examination.
Each having time duration 180 minutes.
Paper VI, VII, VIII, IX are optional papers.
