No subject is required in the preliminary exam because both of the exam is the general studies.

No, dear there is mathematics course no compulsory for UPSC Exam.
Mathematics is compulsory for SCRA Examination only.
For civil service exam candidate must be Graduate any stream from any recognized university.
And you can select any optional subject in examination according to you choice and your knowledge. There is no boundation.
