Hello
UPSC conducts many exams every year. Some of them are ones in which you need and some of them in which you do not need. But it is all because of the criteria for that particular job and post.Like UPSC conducts IAS,IPS etc in which there is no such rule. While there is NDA which allows you to apply for air force and navy and army wing, and you need maths and physics in 10+2 for applying in air force and navy but any stream is applicable for army.
So it is not about UPSC exams,it is about the recruitment of that particular field.

dear aspirant,
It depend on which exam of UPSC you are going to apply. Like For Civil Services and CPF etc. there is no such a recomendation and for NDA, CDS and SCRA you must have Mathematics and Physics. but for most of exam there is no such a recommendation and you need only to complete graduation in any stream with any subject. But if you work on my opinion i will advice you to take Mathematics as your subject. Because in each exam of UPSC or any other there is Aptitude test in which Mathematics will help you to clear the exam.
