Dear Applicant,
-If the degree of metallurgical Graduation you hold is a Technical one,,only then will you be able to appear for the Indian Engineering Service exams.
- Only Bachelors in Technology,irrespective of their stream,can appear the IES exams.
- The COMPLETE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for the IES exams are mentioned below ::
01. NATIONALITY.
You must be a citizen of INDIA,
or,You must be a subject of NEPAL or BHUTAN,
or,You must be a TIBETAN refugee settled permanently in INDIA before 1962.
O2. AGE LIMITS.
You must be 21 to 30 years of age.
However,the upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST and by 3 years for OBC candidates.
03. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS.
You must have completed your Bachelors in Engineering in any subject or stream from a recognized university.
Final year students are also applicable.
Only passing percentage is required.
However,take note that all the appearing students will have to choose from within the following FOUR subjects to appear the exams ::
# CIVIL ENGINEERING
# MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
# ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
# ELECTRONICS AND TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING.
--You can appear the IES exams only if you meet these eligibility demands completely.

Yes; metallurgical engineering graduates are eligible to become an IES Officer through UPSC Engineering Services Exam.
In fact all the engineering graduates, irrespective of their branch are eligible for the Engineering Services Exam.
The Eligibility criteria for the Engineering Services Exam is:-
Minimum academic qualification needed: A degree in Engineering from a recognized University or equivalent. M.Sc Degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subject acceptable for certain Services/posts only.
Age limit:- 21-30 years.
The exam will be conducted with four subjects namely Civil , Mechanical , Electrical , Electronics and telecommunication engineering.
So to write the Exam you will have to choose any one of the above subjects.
You can choose the best subject for you by going through the syllabus of each subject in the UPSC Website http://www.upsc.gov.in

Yes, you're eligible but you need to write the exam only in the following four streams:
1) Civil Engineering
2) Mechanical Engineering
3) Electrical Engineering
4) Electronics and telecommunication
Age limits:
General : 21-30yrs
OBC: 21-33yrs
SC/ST : 21-35yrs
Note :There's a considerable age relaxation for categories like Blind, Deaf-Mute etc.

yes you are eligible for ies exam since your degree in metallurgy is a technical one but you have to choose on of the subjects to apply for:- civil,mechanical,electrical, electronics an telecommunication engineering.
