Hi Aspirant,
Of course friend , the selection of math as optional subject in UPSC civil service exam is good and you gain good marks in this subject.
In the mains exam of Civil Service candidates have to choose two optional subjects.
In mains exam candidates should choose the subject of their interest and about that they are most familiar.
The good selection of optional subject is directly proportional of your success in mains exam.
So friend if you have good interest in math subject then you can choose it for mains and acquire good marks.
Besides math you will have to choose another subject.
Optional subjects
AgricultureAnimal husbandry & vetinary scienceAnthropologyBotanyChemistryCivil engineeringCommerce and accountancyEconomicsGeographyIndian HistoryLawManagementMathematicsMechanical engineeringMedical sciencePhilosophyPhysicsPolitical science & international relationsPsychologySociologyStatisticsZoology
In my suggestion you should choose History because this subject also will be helpful in the preparation of General studies paper in prelims exam.
Best of Luck
