    The real question is �Is it possible to score high marks in some particular subjects?

    �The answer is �Yes� and �No�.

    You look at subjects like Mathematics,    physics Engineering subjects and even subjects like Literature of Languages like Hindi,where you can spot candidates securing 400 plus marks. But, that is not custom; you will find a gamut of candidates securing less marks in these subjects and ruining their prospect of selection or desired post.There are no indications that UPSC has any preference or favoritism for any particular optional subject and as a matter of fact each subject is good and many candidates score high marks which help them in success.

    If eyeing some new optional subject, be sure about your choice as you have to justify your decision by performance. You need to have the competence to uplift your level and need to have capacity of preparing the subject with understanding the requirements.

    When it comes to choosing optional subject for Main Examination, there are three possible scenarios:
    1. Pick both optional subjects which you have read in graduation/post-graduation and have prior knowledge.
    2. Pick one subject which is from your academic background and select one new subject.
    3. Pick both subject which are new to you.

    Dear Aspirant

    It is hard to to suggests which optional as less syllabus but generally engineering papers have less syllabus compared to other optional.
    It will be easier for you if you select optional paper which you have studied in your graduation

    Yes you can crack Mains examination in first attempt but plan meticulously and implement those plans . Solve previous years question papers and most important choose your optional wisely.
