UPSC conduct the Civil Services exams for the post of IAS, IPS, IFS post.

and for Civil Services Exam you must choose those subjects in which you have good knowledge and you feel comfortable while preparing for the exam. so, selection of optional subject is totally depend on you.

but if you really want i recommend you to choose Arts subjects like Mathematics and geography as your optional subjects. Because these subjects can be easily understood and are easy to crack.

Being a biotechnology student you should choose the subject which is related to your stream.

You can choose any two subjects in this list.

But I would like to warn you that the optional subject play a key role in the success of candidates. Because optional subject carries 1200 marks out of 2000 marks.

So the selection of mains subject should be done very carefully.

Therefore I will suggest you to choose the subject of your fancy ( Interest), which is also related to biotechnology and you would have already good knowledge about them.
