In order to become Superintendent of Police, one has to complete the Bachelors program in any stream from a recognized University. After completing the graduation candidate is eligible to write Civil Service Exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission. The exam consists of written test and interview. After successfully qualifying all the stages one is eligible for the post of Assistant Superintendent of Police [ASP]. After few years of service candidate are promoted in the following manner:
Deputy Superintendent of Police - DSPAdditional Superintendent of Police - ASP
Superintendent of Police - SP

To become superintendent of police, you will have to first join the police department as an assistant superintendent of police or assistant commissioner of police by qualifying the civil service exam, conducted by union public service commission.
With experience and accomplishment, you will rise to the rank of superintendent of police, SSP, deputy inspector general of police, inspector general of police, additional director general of police and finally the director general of police, who is the head of the police force in a state.
Now, since you'll have to write the civil service exam, being your first step, you must be a graduate, in any discipline within the age limit of 21-30 years.

In order to become a IPS,it is necessary that you go for the civil services.After class 10+2,it is not possible to become a IPS with an intermediate.
It is necessary to give the civil services,in order to become the IPS and the qualification required to apply for the civil services is graduation from any stream.
You will have to complete your graduation,to apply for the civil services.There are three stages of the civil services
1)Preliminary exam
2)Mains exam
3)Interview
If you clear all the stages then according to your rank you will be get your posting,the only way to become the superindent of police is to apply for the civil services.
If you clear all the stages then you will get the posting as a Assistant superindent/Assistant commisioner etc.,from there on with the promotions you will get the posting as a superindent post.
You can either apply for the IPS,or else any other state level civil services.But for that you need to complete your graduation in order to apply for the civil services and for the other state level civil services.

one cannot become sp after intermediate.
one needs to crack civil services exam to become an ips officer.,
and minimum qualification required for the same is graduation from an ugc recognised university.
