Currently I am in 7th semester B.tech and preparing for IAS exam alongwith GATE but everyone is suggesting me to first of all go for M.Tech and then try for IAS exam so what should I do.Should I stop my IAS preparation as I am an average students having got 75-80% throughout my B.Tech course.

Yes, this is not bad idea. You can complete your M.tech first and then go for IAS exam.

    YES,

THIS IS GOOD IDEA ONLY WHEN YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT CAPABLE OF GET THROUGH in IAS EXAM this time,EVEN AFTER PREPARATION.

SO IT IS BETTER TO do M-tech then WASTING TIME IN PREPARATION.

YOU GO FOR P.G IN YOUR FIELD THAT WILL ALSO OPEN-UP POSSIBILITY FOR YOU in GAZETTED POSTS WHICH ARE ALSO REPUTED ONE,
    LIKE
POST FOR SENIOR FELLOWSHIP AS TECHNICAL ASsISTANT,
OR AS AN ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN DIFFERENT GOVT. OR PRIVATE COLLEGES AFTER ACQUIRING M-TECH.

THEN along with that you can also prepare for IAS exam ,if during that period you will able to crack the IAS that wil be "like that Aam ke Aam guthaliyoan ki bi DAAM'.

so, go for it without too much thinking.

If you are intrested to complete M.Tech then you may complete it first and then after you may take IAS exam. It will be better for you if you qualify GATE.

this is not an bad idea. you can do m.tech and after that you can again pursue for ias exam. simultaneously you can also prepare for exam when you get free timings. so that it will be useful after your m.tech completion.

It is your interest whether to start preparation for IAS Exam or not. If you strongly want to see yourself as a IAS Officer or an employee of any of the civil services, you can carry on preparation for IAS Exam.

Any way, you have been in preparation for this exam. Soon after the completion of B.Tech, if you speed up your preparation to a little extent, obviously you can crack civil services exam.

In contrast to this, if you have strong interest to pursue your higher studies, you can opt for this course.

The admission for M.Tech course will be given on the basis of performance or score in the GATE Exam.

If you want to join M.Tech, obviously you can prepare this exam. So, no longer you can not continue your preparation for IAS Exam.

So, decide upon yourself of which you want to join. If not interested to join M.Tech, you can opt for other courses like
    -MCA
    -MBA etc.

My suggestion is to have good prepartion for IAS Exam and crack the exam even if it take 1 more year of time for you to crack the civil services exam. Or otherwise just try for good job opportunities on the basis of your B.Tech academic qualification.

Of-Course Dear, You can continue your M.Tech and then try for IAS Exam. Because after completion of M.Tech you have much more knowledge in your preparation of Optional Subjects Papers. But it is appreciable if you go side by side with general Knowledge, practice Essay , and previous year Question papers....
