The students of B.Tech in computer Science won’t eligible for the IES exam. The candidates who have done their B.Tech in Electrical, Civil, and Mechanical with ECE are only eligible for the IES exam. Along with this, the candidates who are having an M.Sc degree in certain specific subjects like Wireless Communication, Electronics etc can apply for the IES. Students with M.Sc in Radio Physics and Engineering as a core subject are also taken in for certain specific post through the IES exam. The age of the candidates should not be less than 21 years of age and also the age should not go beyond 30 years.

As per the standards set by the Union Public Service Commission, a graduate in engineering, in any discipline, is eligible to write Engineering Service Examination, but the only problem one will be facing that there won't be any paper for Computer Science. The examination is conducted only in the following areas of Engineering:

    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Civil Engineering
    • Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
    • Electronics Engineering

So, basically, as mentioned above an engineering graduate, from any discipline, may write the exam, the aspirant won't be able to apply for areas of engineering other than what have been mentioned above.
The age limit to apply for the exam is between 21-30 years, where the maximum age limit is relaxed upto 3 years for candidates belonging to OBC category and 5 years for Sc/St category.
