Dear Aspirant!
In second year of Engineering course you are not eligible to apply for Civil Services.
Graduation in any stream is the minimum educational qualification required to apply for civil services.
You can choose any optional subject in civil services examination that may interested to you.
But there will be restriction of two combination of subjects.
Good Luck

Hello
Yes you can choose geography as the optional subject for the mains.
Now it is a misconception that most have that they can not choose or select subjects which does not belong to their graduation stream.
It is a wrong idea as any body from any background can choose any subject irrespective of his stream in the graduation. The fact is that for the civil services the eligibility criteria is graduation from any stream is applicable for the exam.
Now the students who have done their graduation in BFA(Bachelor Of Fine Arts) and hotel management are also eligible but there is no subjects that belong to their degree, but they are eligible.

HI
YOU CAn opt for geography as optional subject.there is nothing wrong if you want to know about the new subject which is not related to your subject.
when it comes for competitive exam, choose that subject which you have studied before or know about it,so that it would made you easy while preparing for the exam, and take less time
its not like the you had to select the optional subject as per the profession field.if you think you can grasp the concept then no one can stop you.
you need to crack the civil service preliminary test, then you can prepare for civil service main exam.
before that you must have bachelor degree or if you are in final year then you can apply for the civil service exam
make sure you satisfy the eligibility criteria.
