yes, definitely you can apply for IES exam being a Engineer. As IES is conducted for Engineers and any Engineer in any field can apply for IES exam.

but the candidates have to give the exams by choosing Subjects in any one from following list of Branches:

1. Electrical Engineering
2. Mechanical Engineering
3. Civil Engineering
4. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering


Eligibility Criteria:

1. Engineering degree in any discipline.

2. Age limit:

• General: 21 years to 30 years
• OBC: 21 years to 33 years
• SC/ST: 21 years to 35 years

All Engineering students can apply for IES exam. but there is no computer science stream in IES. YOu have to give exam in one of the following streams
1) Civil
2) Mechanical
3)Electrical
4)ELectronics
Usually this exam is conducted in june month of every year. Notification will be issued in march month . And you will have one month time to apply for the exam.
The scheme of the exam is as follows
It includes both objective multiple choice type and conventional essay type papers
section -A (objective type)
3 papers (general ability, 2 papers on respective stream ie civil,mechanical,Electrical or Electronics)
Section -B (essay type)
2 papers on respective stream

IES stands for Indian Engineering Service exam.

UPSC plans this exam once in a year for the recruitment of engineer at the post of Assistant Executive Engineer.

This exam is organized at all India Level.

You can apply for IES exam in next year 2013.

Conditions for IES exam

To attain IES exam you must have BE or B. Tech degree in any branch from recognized university or its equivalent.

Final year candidates of engineering can also apply for IES exam.

You must attain the age of 21 years but not more than 30 years.

Age relaxation in age for SC/ST and OBC
