i m mechanical engineer.... can i select history as my main subject in upsc exam???

And upsc is allowing the candidates to choose the optional subjects

On their wish you can choose your subject that you want

But their is compulsory subjects also

That you have to choose if you want to write the upsc exam

And the subjects are english

And g.k you have to give the exam of these subjects

Yes you can select History as your optional subject in UPSC Civil services mains exam.
In fact you can choose any listed subject. A candidate can choose an optional subject, which he has not studied at graduate/post graduate level.

there is nothing related about your mechanical engineering you just choose that optional subject which you think you can easily understand and in that subject you can score good .take those subjects which you can grasp easilly
