    Can one select any B.Tech subject as optional other than Mechanical, Civil, Electrical for IAS mains exam?

    hello
    Apart from civil,electrical,mechanical branch can any other B.tech branch be selected as an optional subject in IAS mains

    dear aspirant,

    Sorry dear there are only three Engineering Branches named Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering included in the list of optional subjects for Mains Exam. and you have to choose any one from these branches. and you can also choose any optional subject from the list of optional subjects. There is no issue regarding you have studied that optional subject in your academic carrier or not.

    UPSC made changes in the pattern for Civil Services Exam. Now there is no optional subject in Prelims and now you have to choose one optional subject from the list of optional subjects.

    Civil Services has three phase and you have to clear all the phase:

    1. Prelims(CSAT)
    2. Mains
    3. Interview

    List of optional subjects for Main Examination:


    (i) Agriculture
    (ii) Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
    (iii) Anthropology
    (iv) Botany
    (v) Chemistry
    (vi) Civil Engineering
    (vii) Commerce and Accountancy
    (viii) Economics
    (ix) Electrical Engineering
    (x) Geography
    (xi) Geology
    (xii) History
    (xiii) Law
    (xiv) Management
    (xv) Mathematics
    (xvi) Mechanical Engineering
    (xvii) Medical Science
    (xviii) Philosophy
    (xix) Physics
    (xx) Political Science and International Relations
    (xxi) Psychology
    (xxii) Public Administration
    (xxiii) Sociology
    (xxiv) Statistics
    (xxv) Zoology

    Scheme and subjects for the Preliminary and Main Examinations
    A. Preliminary Examination
    The Examination shall comprise two compulsory papers of 200 marks each.

    B. Main Examination
    The written examination will consist of the following papers:

    Paper-I

    Section 1 Essay 200 Marks
    Section 2 English Comprehension
    & English Pr�cis 100 Marks
    (Of Matriculation/ Xth standard
    level)

    Paper-II

    General Studies�I 250Marks
    (Indian Heritage and Culture,
    History and Geography of the World
    and Society)

    Paper-III

    General Studies �II 250 Marks
    (Governance, Constitution,
    Polity, Social Justice and
    International relations)

    Paper-IV

    General Studies �III 250 Marks
    (Technology, Economic Development,
    Bio-diversity, Environment, Security
    and Disaster Management)

    Paper-V

    General Studies �IV 250 Marks
    (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)

    Paper-VI

    Optional Subject � Paper 1 250 Marks

    Paper-VII

    Optional Subject � Paper 2 250 Marks

    Sub Total (Written test) 1800 Marks

    Personality Test 275 Marks.
    Grand Total 2075 Marks



    Eligibility Criteria For Civil Services:

    >>you must have completed or appearing in final year of graduation.

    >>your age must be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 August of the year of exam. there is relaxation in upper age limit up to 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.



    Limit Number Of Attempts:

    >>General category: 4 attempts

    >>OBC category: 7 attempts

    >>SC/ST category: No Limit




    Important dates of Civil Services exam in 2013:


    CSAT(Prelims):

    date of Notification:05.03.2013

    last date of receipt of application:04.04.2013

    date of exam:26.05.2013



    Mains:

    date of exam:01-12-2013

    NO, there are not. As Mechanical, Civil and Electrical are the core branches, only these are available in the optional subjects.
    But, that doesn't mean than student belonging to any other branches other than these can't give IAS.
    As for for example if you are an electronics Engineer, your most part of the syllabus are included in Electrical syllabus.

    As per the pattern of examination there is only one optional has to be selected for main examination.From engineering sides UPSC provides only three core branches as one of the optional.They are Electrical Engineering,Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering.So you cannot select any other branch paper as one of the optional from engineering side However you may select any other optional from following which is provided by UPSC

    you can select but personally i say pls don take such a waste subject unless having deep subject knowledge

    ya you can but personally i suggest you not to select such a vast portion unless you have a thorough knowledge
