IPS do not oversee administration. It is an IAS officer who is recruited for the purpose. IPS officers are mandated to maintain law and order in the country.
Around 80-90 IPS officers are recruited evry year and this number varies from year to year.
IPS officers are trained at Sardar Vallabh Bbhai Patel National Police Academy at Hyderabad for about 2 years and initially at Mussorie for 2 months.
IPS officer gets a salary package meant for Grade A officer.
