-The Mains Exams of the Civil Services,which is conducted annually by the UPSC consists of 9 Papers.
-You will have to opt for 3 OPTIONAL SUBJECTS FOR THE MAINS EXAMS : ONE FOR LITERATURE(which is a qualifying paper) AND THE OTHER TWO ARE THE MAIN SUBJECT PAPERS CONSISTING OF 2 PAPERS EACH,CONSISTING OF 300 MARKS EACH.

UPSC can conducts the civil services examsfor( IAS,IPS) also conducts CMS,IES,CPF,CDS,IFS etc......
UPSC takes these exams every year.
IAS,IPS,IES,IFS exams can be conducts in 2 stages namely
Preliminary exam
Main examination.
After completion of preliminary exam you are eligible for Main examination.
After clearing the main examination you will be called for final interview.
Preliminary examination should consist of 2 papers.Which is conducted on objective type only.
Main examination should consist of 9 papers,it is a descriptive exam.
Eligiblity:
Education qualifications;
You have to pass your graduation in any recognized university.
Age qualifications:
Your age should in between 21-30 years.
Upper age limit will be applicable for ST/SC/OBC candidates.
No.of Permissible attempts:
4 for General candidates.
7 for OBC
No limit for SC/ST's.
Nationality:Indian.
You must be physically fit as per rules.

There are two types of written examination in UPSC.
UPSC Prelim exam and UPSC Mains exam. You will appear in UPSC Prelim exam first in which Objective type Questions are asked from General English, General Studies etc.
For UPSC Mains you have to choose Subjects. There are total 51 Optional Subjects in which 23 are from main subjects and 28 Language Subjects like Hindi, English, Bengali etc.
The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 400 marks
The Main Examination will consist of a written examination and an Interview Test. The written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type.
Syllabus for prelim exam: Current events of national and international importance
History of India and Indian National Movement
Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World
Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc
Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization

The Main examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission . The candidate can apply for main examination after clearing the prelims examination . The main examination consist of Nine papers . I am mentioned the exam pattern and list of optional subjects .
-One of the Indian Language :- 300 Marks
-English :- 300 Marks
-Essay :- 200 Marks
-General studies :- 600 Marks
-Any two optional subjects :- 1200 Marks .
Note :- Indian Language and English papers are qualifying papers , the candidate have to compulsory clearly the these papers .
The candidate have to select any two subjects from 25 optional subjects and 300 marks for each paper . I am list the out optional paper below .

Now , As per your ask , i would like to tell you that you can select a maximum of 3 optional subjects out of 53 subjects in which one must be a language subject.
The other two can be chosed from the 25 conventional subjects offered by the Union Public Service Commission.
