Note -

The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.
currently there is no change in the mains pattern.all the best.
changes in preliminary exam:
previously (till 2010) candidates have to choose an optional subject for preliminary exam. now the scheme is modified. No optional subject needs to be chosen. Instead, a compulsory paper called CSAT( civil service aptitude) has been added. This is done so as to bring all candidates on par. In the earlier method, candidates' marks depends on the option they choose and difficulty level of that particular option's question paper. So UPSc has to adopt a scaling system to treat candidates from different options equally. TO do away with such a practice and in order to test the decision making, problem solving and language skills which have become very essential in the current situation this new CSAT pattern is introduced.
earlier option subject had 150 questions
in CSAT 80 questions- 200 marks- questions on quantitative aptitude, reasoning&logical, data interpretation, ENglish language comprehension etc are asked
Paper 1:
as far as general studies is concerned, the syllabus for earlier paper and the current pattern is the same, only number of questions reduced in the new pattern to 100 ( earlier 150 questions). THe questions in GS have become more analytical, current oriented.
