What is the method of calculating number of attempts? Will I get only four attempts in gross of all exams under UPSC?

I have come to know that open category person is elligible for 4 attempts for UPSC exam. Please let me know this restriction is for each indivisual exam separately or is it like "you can given only four attempts in gross of all exams under UPSC" ?

    Dear Applicant,
    - The number of attempts for each exam conducted by the UPSC are counted seperately. It is not true that you will get FOUR ATTEMPTS in gross of all the exams conducted by the UPSC.
    -
Belonging to the open category, what you have come to know about is valid for the CIVIL SERVICE Exams & the INDIAN FOREST SERVICE Exams only.
An open category is allowed four number of attempts in the Civil Service exams and the IFS exams, and the number of attempts are counted seperately for these two examinations TOO.
While the OBC candidates are entitled to seven attempts, the number for the SC/ST candidates are not restricted.
    -
As for the other exams conducted by the UPSC,there is no restriction on the number of attempts as long as you fulfil the eligibility criteria completely.
THE REST OF THE EXAMS ARE LISTED BELOW ::
    01. NDA EXAMS.
    02. SCRA EXAMS.
    03. INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICE EXAMS.
    04. COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICE EXAMS.
    05. GEOLOGISTS EXAMS.
    06. STENOGRAPHER'S EXAMS.
    07. INDIAN ECONOMIC/STATISTICAL SERVICE EXAMS.
    08. COMBINED MEDICAL SERVICE EXAMS.
    09. CENTRAL POLICE FORCE EXAMS.
-These exams have no restricted attempts.

    dear friend,

number of attempts are counted for different exam separately.

and attempt is counted only if you clear at least on subject in UPSC otherwise
an attempt is not considered as a attempt.

    Good luck........

    Dear,
The attempt will be counted when you attend atleast one paper of the examination. It is only prevailed in CSAT examination. The attempts are also counted separately to the examination. There is no gross attempts to all examination, but there is separate attempts in different examination of the UPSC. Best of Luck

No not at all.The attempts are for each separate exam. There will be 4 attempts for Civil service,4 attempts for Forest Service,4 for Engineering service etc.All exams are not counted on a together basis. The attempts are different for different exams. You can appear for all the exams with 4 attempts for each individual exam.

    hi
no there is no gross system for the upsc exams. There are many different exams which are conducted by the upsc and amongst those examinations, only the upsc civil services exam is the paper in which you need to be under the age limit of 21-30 years and the total number of attempts given to you would be 4.
There would be a 3 and 5 years relaxation, given to the obc and the sc/st candidates respectively.
And the number of attempts for the obc is 7 and there is no restrictions for the number of attempts of the sc/st candidates.
    Gud luck

    - The method of counting attempts in UPSC conducted various exams is very simple.

    - In whatever exam you apply and sit the attempt is counted for only that exam.

    - If you apply for the exam but not attand any exam or test or interview whater is conducted firstly then your attempt is not counted.

    - The attempt is counted when you sit in minimum one paper of any exam.

    - If you apply for Civil Service Exam which allows General candidates only 4 attempts and you sit in only one paper of Prelims then your attempt will be counted.

    - But it does not means that your attempt of Indian Engineering Service has also been counted.

    - The attempt of IES exam will be counted when you will sit in IES exam.

    hi,
there is no any calculating method,
because attempts , depend on category like=
general candidates attempts 4 times .
    obc candidate attempts=7 times
    sc,st candidates =no limit

there is also age restrictions as=
    general=21 to 30
    obc =21 to 33

Re: What is the method of calculating number of attempts? Will I get only four attempts in gross of all exams under UPSC?

    Dear aspirants,

the method of calculating no. of attempts allowed are very simple.there are no. of attempts are allowed for one

examination is not counted in other examination of upsc..it means if you appeared in one examination of upsc 4 times then it doesn't

mean that you are not eligible to sit any other examination of upsc , the attempts for other examination are safe ,but yes if you

attempted all the attempts allowed to you according to your category than you can't appear in that particular examination .

in other words we can say that for example if you are a general category student and attempted all your four attempts in IES

examination even than your four attempts for civil services examination are safe , so don't. worry you have 4 attempts for particular

one examination not for all the upsc examination under your age criteria .

Now let's take a look on the no of attempts allowed to the candidates according to their category and age requirements for the examination .

    No of attempts :-

    * there are different no of attempts allowed to the aspirants according to their category.

    1. for general category:- there are only 4 attempts are allowed to general category.

    2. for obc category:- there are 7 attempts are given to them.

    3. sc/st candidate have no restriction till age 35.

    Age criteria:-

    1. the general category students are allowed to apply in between 21-30 years.

    2. obc candidates are allowed to apply in between 221-33 years because they get 3 years of age relaxation.

    3. due to getting age relaxation of 5 year they are allowed to apply till 35 years.

but if you are not fulfilling the eligibility criteria given below then these all are in vain, so take a look on it.

    Eligibility criteria:-

    1. only Indian citizenship holder aspirants are allowed to sit in the examination.

    2. only graduate candidate with a govt. recognized university.

for any further detailed information regarding the examination you should visit the official website of upsc :- http://www.upsc.gov.in

The method of calculating is simple, if you lose in prelims or mains for more than 4 times if you are OC and 7 times if you are MBC then you can't appear further. But for SC/St no limit...
