The Age limit of IES examination is 21 - 30 years as on the 1st august of the year of the examination.

However certain categories of persons including departmental candidates are eligible for age relaxation as given below:

SC/ST - 5 years
OBC - 3 years
Persons with disabilities - 10 years

Your age on 1st august,2014 will be 30 years 1 month 15 days.

So,if you belong to general category then you are not eligible for IES examination 2014.

But if you belong to certain categories (sc,st,obc) then you are eligible.

So u would be 29 years old exactly till 2014.
so u would be eligible for ies exam in2014.

Indian Economic Service(IES) is conducted by UPSC every year.

The Age Limit in General Category is 21-30yrs on 1st January of the year of examination.

There is relaxation of age limit for reseved category candidates like by +3yrs for OBC and

by +5yrs for SC/ST candiodates,etc.

You will become 0f age 30yrs on 17th June 2014.

So most probably you will be eligible to apply if you belong to general category.

May be you are unlucky by little distance.

Your age will be 30 years 1 month 15 days as on the 1st august in the year 2014 & the upper age limit to be eligible for IES examination is 30 years as on the 1st august of the year of the examination i.e your age will cross the upper age limit required for the examination.

But if you belong to reserved categories viz. sc,st or obc, then you are eligible because the upper age limit is relaxable for these categories.

The sc/st category candidates have 5 years age relaxation & the obc's have 3 years age relaxation facilities.

So, if you belong to general category then you are not eligible for IES examination 2014 & if you belong to any reserved category then you are eligible.

The age limit for the exam is 21 to 30 years. In 2014 your age is the 29-30 years, you have only one chance to give the ies exam if you belong to the unreserved category.


If you belong to reserve category then you have chance to give the paper.


The age relaxation for the sc/st category is the 5 years


For obc category is 3 years. And physical handicapped candidate 10 years.


The qualification is required for the exam is graduation in engineering line

yes, you can apply for UPSC IES exam in 2014. because according to age limit for IES exam you must have attained the age of 21 years on 1 January of the year of exam and you must not have attained the age of 30 years on that date.

and according to your date of birth you will reach the age of 30 years on 17-June-2014.

So according to your D.O.B,you would have crossed this age of 30 years.
Hence you are not eligible for the exam.

Your age are going to be thirty years one month fifteen days as on the first august within the year 2014 & the higher regulation to be eligible for IES examination is thirty years as on the first august of the year of the examination i.e your age can cross the higher regulation needed for the examination.

The eligibility for giving the IES examination is that you should be a gradate in mechanical/electrical/civil/ECE streams of engineering and your age should be in between 21-30 years.
Now the 30 years age is calculated at the time of the filling up of forms and as the forms for the IES are filled in the month of march, at that time your age would be under 30, and hence you can give the exam.
Moreover, there is a relaxation of 3 years for the obc category and a relaxation of 5 years is for the sc/st category in the age limit for giving the exam.
