In my opinion recruitment in IAS is tougher among... since it is the best job of our country. Merit for ias goes very high.

actually a common exam of IAS/IPS/IFS is conducted by UPSC, then on behalf of your performance (in written & interview) rank wise list is prepared. High rank officers are selected as IAS and the IPS and IFS.

Dear this year UPSC board has released the notification for Indian civil service and Indian forest service at same time and accepting the applications for this examination under the same dates which are as

Start date for online application - 5th March 2013

Last date for online application - 4th April 2013

Date for UPSC Civil Service prelims - 26th May 2013

so you can see that the dates are same and you can apply for both of these exams at once only in one application and if you prefer for IFoS then you will have to score more marks in prelims then you will be selected for mains examination of IFoS because this year the examination is also common for both civil service and forest service and there are about 1000 vacancies for IAS post and about 85 vacancies for forest service and only those candidates would be selected for this post who scores higher in the prelims examination that is why you need to prepare hard for both exams

IPS officer examination is departmental examination for which you need to have in relevant position means a general person who wish to apply for this examination may not apply for IPS examination and for that you need to have already in relevant service under Police department

recruitment of ias is toughest because the seats in ias are very less, only 65. so one need to have a rank less than 100 to secure its selection. so prepare hard for the exam.
